MVPW Coaches
MidValley Pop Warner (MVPW) is an all-volunteer
program. Football coaches are not paid, nor allowed
to accept gratuities in any form. Likewise, the
Board of Directors is formed by dedicated men and
women who volunteer time and skills to further to
program. Only referees are compensated. Refs are
hired by the MidValley Pop Warner or the local
Association to officiate games
on it's home field.
Most volunteers are introduced to MVPW when his
or her child signs up for football. The head coach
may have some staff (assistants) from the previous
year but will probably be looking to fill other
positions. Please let the head coach know at your
first team meeting that you are willing to
actively participate and he will consider a
place for you. Coaches put a LOT of time into
learning and developing their coaching skills. Some
MVPW coaches have 10, 15 and even over 25 years
experience coaching youth football.
Head Coaches are selected by the current Board of
Directors and must re-apply each year. Once
approved for a head coaching position and awarded a
team, the Head Coach has discretion over who is
on his or her staff as long as staff members have
completed and passed the required background checks
and coaches application. Only officially rostered
staff are allowed on the field during games or
practice.
Typical staff positions include: 1 head coach, up
to 4 adult assistant coaches, 1 youth coach
in training, 1 trainer, 1 equipment manager, 1 team
mom and 1 player administrator/team manager. A maximum of 10 rostered
staff is allowed. Rostered staff must submit a
volunteer application and pass a background check.
Applications are submitted to the league for
approval. There are many other opportunities to
serve your child's team. Providing half-time snacks,
scorekeeping, Minimum Play Spotter, car-pooling to
distant games, "chain gang" are very important
duties that require very little commitment. Feel
free to jump in, or you might just get
volunteered.
Lightning reminder: In the event that lightning
is visible to the eye - it is MVPW policy to safeguard all
of our players and release them to their parents immediately.
Practice or games should NOT continue.
